Scientists could for the first time, transform one kind of bacteria into another, having replaced their DNA. According to experts, this achievement will allow to synthesise microbes for manufacture of safe fuel for environment and manufacturing of medicines. Also this technology will find application in the textile and chemical industry.
For the experiment researchers have chosen two kinds of bacteria: Mycoplasma mycoides, donors playing a role, and Mycoplasma capricolum, representing itself as addressee, informs Physorg. Both kinds concern pathogenic bacteria. Their genetic material is identical on 75 %.
